Abstract: That winter the winter went ahead. The first terrible storm arrived in the barren lands of the Prairie in October. Then it snowed without rest until April. The snow reached the rooftops and no train could circulate to bring food or coal. The inhabitants of De Smet, including the Ingalls family, go hungry and everyone is wondering how they can spend this terrible winter. It is the young Almanzo Wilder who understands what are the measures that must be taken to save the city.
